Artist Statement

Our first real encounter with the body happens very rarely. We move through the world seeing people dressed in various attires, covering what is, in essence, the vessel of their being. It feels unnatural, or perhaps has become so natural, that we only truly see bodies in paintings or in other explicitly designated spaces or in private.

There is a long-standing practice of taking the clothed body for granted. We accept the censorship imposed on us as a way of being, rarely questioning it.

In this work, I created a "nude" but one that is not actually nude. It is made from the very clothes used to cover the body. Coming from a culture where bodily display is considered taboo, I am exploring my own desire to create a nude form and present it openly in public space.

This piece is both a quiet rebellion and an intimate inquiry into visibility, concealment, and the complex relationship we hold with our own bodies.
